Notably, all progress earned within this demo is eligible to be imported directly into the main game upon its subsequent debut.

More Than a Simple Re-release: A Thorough Overhaul

This title constitutes a ground-up re-envisioning of the landmark year 2000 role-playing game, first titled Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past. Taking a significant departure from other Dragon Quest remakes, such as the previously released HD-2D iterations, this reimagining utilizes a charming 3D visual presentation. The world appear to look like detailed model sets, with party members featuring a delightful chibi-esque look.

"Even with the 3DS version, the story was remained notoriously extended. Therefore, we reached a decision that we wanted to streamline the story, [and] make this experience for modern audiences."

Major Gameplay Improvements and Modernizations

The creators has introduced several changes to refresh the original experience. These include:

  • Quick Overworld Encounters: Similar to modern role-playing games, low-level foes can now be dispatched directly on the overworld map eliminating the need for entering a separate turn-based battle screen.
  • Adjustable Battle Speed: Gamers can accelerate battle sequences to quickly power through simpler encounters.
  • Expanded Job Mechanics: A completely new character role has been added for this remake. Furthermore, characters gain the ability to take on a second vocation, significantly enhancing customization depth.

These alterations seek to mitigate a key the original title's frequent points of feedback: its daunting scope. The initial adventure was known to take over 100 hours to complete. This new version was specifically structured to enhance pacing and reduce any repetition.
