The network's Top New Show of 2025 Earns a Substantial Renewal for an Additional Two Seasons.

In October of last year, Adult Swim welcomed back its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, shortly thereafter, the channel introduced a completely new animated series with a distinctly unique tone. Haha, You Clowns emerged as gentle and comforting, evoking a animated take of a contemplative talk show. In an era often characterized by cynicism, this show's sincerity struck a chord and turned it into a breakout hit.

A Major Commitment

On December 18th, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two additional seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose primary trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four key characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the viewers of the show who welcomed the series and shared it with others," stated Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for seasons to come."

Executive Acclaim

Accompanying the news commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He thanked the fans who found the show and championed its distinctly quirky appeal.

"All of you got behind this new show, rooted for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something deeply soothing about watching this endearing family go about their everyday routines.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa expressed his goal to move the comedy genre beyond its prevailing cynical streak. He traced this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” said Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we must laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”

Future Seasons

Now, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa has the opportunity to be part of that change he described. At a minimum, the renewal promises audiences a little more time to bask in the gentle humor of the beloved Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
